When: Sunday, March 21, 2010, noon – 3:00 pm CT (may go longer than 3pm if the attendees wish)

The session will begin in the classroom of The Quilt Merchant at 12:00pm with a brown bag lunch. Here’s a chance to network with other quilt shop owners while dining on a lunch & drink that you bring for yourself. The topic of “Merchandising Your Shop: Tips and Techniques” will follow lunch and is presented by Docia Fuller, Owner, who opened The Quilt Merchant in 2005 after spending many years managing retail stores. Her shop was featured in 2007 in "Quilt Sampler" and at that time was primarily reproduction fabrics and now is expanding with baby and contemporary fabric. Docia will share her knowledge of theories of displays and samples, "the story" of merchandising, and talk about her experiences of why and how effective merchandising increases your bottom line.
The second topic, “Staffing Your Shop” is an open forum for the quilt shop owners to discuss hiring, motivating and keeping good employees while keeping your staffing costs down. Now is the time to bring your questions about any staffing issues that keep you up at night! This is not a presentation session, but rather a question/answer dialogue amongst the attendees. This is truly quilt shop owners helping each other.
